This followed a city council meeting where politicians and the public discussed the presence and role of federal immigration agents in the “sanctuary city”.
After a standoff of several hours that has become routine during the nightly demonstrations, cops came out of the gate and fired pepper balls at a group trying to burn an American flag in the driveway, kicking off a back and forth that lasted for over an hour. High powered flashlights were used to disorient the crowd. Flash bangs, pepper balls, and tear gas were also deployed.
Several targeted arrests were made and at the end of the night one protester, who appeared to be severely injured and unconscious, was dragged into the building. Two ambulances were seen entering the compound shortly after.
Protests are expected to continue throughout the week.
